eBay: Half-Full/Half-Empty

Gee... I have seen everything now!

I was browsing eBay for a cologne that I used for years and could not find any longer.

I found a few that were selling it. However, it seems that most were selling “half-empty” bottles. (There is nothing positive about this, I don't think “half-full” applies here!) Is there something wrong with me or what! I would never have thought to sell something that was “half-empty!” Hmm, something to think about!

I would sure like to here comments on this one!

Day #25 of Grateful

This will be replaced with my last entry on "25 Days of Grateful."

I am still writing it!

Happy Thanksgiving to All

I want to take this opportunity to wish each and everyone of you visiting Blog Views By Roz a “Happy & Healthy Thanksgiving!”

This is the greatest time of the year. It's a time of endings and a time to look to new beginnings! In about five weeks or so we will be looking out at a brand new year, with so many possibilities. It will be a time to start over and build on the successes of 2004.

I vividly remember how I felt on New Year's Eve 2002. I felt as if I had been reborn. I never felt that way before and it was glorious — it was a feeling I wish I could package and give as gifts! Although nothing changed in my day-to-day life, I felt as if nothing mattered, ONLY the fact that I WAS still here. WE WERE ALL STILL HERE!

Last year things started to look up as I worked through the Anthony Robbins program “Get The Edge” (among many other things... I lost 23 pounds!) and had enjoyed the privilege of receiving a complimentary ticket from Tony Robbins to attend “Unleash The Power Within!” Things were truly looking up! I felt as though I found myself again! I was enjoying life and starting to look ahead instead of backwards!

And this year... amidst some of the challenges that still remain, and new ones I picked up along the way... so much has moved forward. So many good things have happened. I met so many nice people and did so many joyful things I would be a hypocrite to not realize how blessed I am. Things could have been so much worse! THEY ARE WORSE... for so many people! I truly feel privileged to be here tonight and sharing my thoughts with you!

Last year I did not even have the Blog. I wanted it so bad I could taste it, but it eluded me because I had such a hard time setting it up. I was so blessed when a new friend took pity on me and set it up. THEN... I let it sit for some time and in the end deleted it to start new and struggle through becoming proficient with Movable Type.(Thank you Kevin!) So here I sit... writing to you at 2:55AM EST on Thanksgiving morning as I listen to the rain pitter pattering on my 19th floor windows.

As I close this novella... I beg all of you reading this to take the time to give yourself the gift of exploring all your blessings and defining moments from 2004. After all... YOU ARE HERE!

As I put this through the spell checker, I had a thought... “I can now see a huge flame at the end of the tunnel, as... My life is a work in progress!”

Well... it's only hours away from Thanksgiving. I feel so blessed to be here yet another year. The wish I have each year is that we will be here next year to do it all over again — and each year after that! I feel truly blessed! (and will try — for the next four days — to not dwell on the challenges as they will end up the same way whether I agonize over them or not!) Please... give yourself the same gift — of peace of mind!

Today's grateful list includes “just two” items, but they are truly the best!

  • I am grateful to be here yet another Thanksgiving and be able to count my blessings. This is the best gift of them all!
  • I am grateful for a Holiday Message I received last night from Anthony Robbins. It came at the most opportune time.

A holiday message — truly a gift — from Anthony Robbins
I'm going to end this one right here and will conclude with Day #25 of Grateful tomorrow / Thanksgiving Day!

If I helped even one person — besides myself — by doing this project it would have been worth the effort. Please know this was not easy. Some days it was harder than I would like to remember, but I did it for you as well as for me. To me, this is the ultimate gift I could give myself and all of you reading this! “I can vividly remember” how I felt before, and I know how I feel now! I want everyone to realize that even in the worse of times, we have many things to be grateful for and IF we keep our sights on this, we will be in a better place to achieve the successes we want for ourselves!

Please stop by tomorrow for the last day of this project / Day #25 of Grateful!

Happy Holidays — From Tony Robbins

Just when I needed it most, I got a Holiday Message from Tony Robbins / The Anthony Robbins Foundation. While I am familiar with the way Tony does things, I felt it was so powerful I wanted to share it with you as well.

Holiday Wishes from Tony Robbins

NOTE: None of this is rocket science, but sometimes we get caught up in our own world and forget those around us — far and near — who might need a little tender loving care (or a “Thank You”). It is so little, and means so much!

As well, we sometimes forget the moments in our own lives which meant so much. Revisiting them sometimes brings back the glow and warmth we felt! (While I won't be sharing it, I am going to sit down and go back over the past year and write down all those moments that meant so much to me. There were some that changed my life forever!)

Day #22 of Grateful

One Day — and a teeny-tiny bit — left until Thanksgiving. They are predicting rain and bad weather in NYC, but, I know... it will stop during the times I am travelling back and forth. How is that for faith!

As I look back over the last year I see many blessings to be grateful for. Even the challenges were/are blessings as their outcomes show much growth, initiative and willingness to make decisions I was not/am not totally comfortable with.

Today's list of grateful started out to be short, but I got a bit carried away:

  • I am grateful to have me to depend on!
  • I am grateful to have awoken to how blessed I really am and was all along. Like many I was blind to the daily fundamental blessings and only saw things in black and white — when it came to some things, but they were important things as they were making my life a misery.

If things were good, then it was good. If things were bad, then it was bad. I evaluated myself using the wrong criteria — or someone elses — and now know the differnce. While money makes things much easier, it “does not” buy happiness, health, self esteem, confidence, self worth, integrity and many other things.

How many we have seen pass on who were very rich, but when it mattered most the money did not help them!
  • I am grateful for my continual feelings of gratitude and contribution to the betterment of all.
  • I am grateful to those who have helped and made huge differences in my life. With some their help and guidance caused some “defining moments” which changed my life forever.
  • I am grateful to those who helped without gain. They did it out of the kindness of their hearts and those are the ones I am most grateful to and go out of my way to give back!
  • I am grateful to be able to help others and for being able to help the thousands who passed/pass through the virtual doors of my discussion groups.
  • I am grateful to those who run the FREE teleseminars which not only help them gain publicity, but help others to network while learning where they would not be able to without them. The nearest and dearest to my heart is:

Annie Jennings PR who runs two FREE teleseminars most weeks. Thank you Annie and Tony and all the guest speakers!

Today “I decided” to give myself “the gift” of a stressless, happy week — something to be utterly grateful and thankful for!

Most businesses are closing early, employees are taking extra days off to spend with family and/or friends, and those who are not do not feel like doing business anyway or are working on a skeleton crew! So me... I'll wait until next week, when hopefully, everyone will be happy from eating too much turkey and/or from having done something fun!

Today's list of grateful includes:

  • I am grateful I can give myself the gift of a stressless, peaceful and happy week! (I know... others may invade this decision, but coming from a better frame of mind will make it all better!)
  • I am grateful I can look forward to Thanksgiving with the anticipation of seeing old friends and eating good food.
  • I am grateful I can also look forward to having a second Thanksgiving dinner on Friday, compliments of my friend who always sends me home with a generous doggy bag (better known as a huge baking tray) that can feed a herd!
  • Last, but not least I am grateful to be “a lot” better off this year than I was last year. It was a rough road back after 911 and last year I was just at the door of return after coming back from a weekend with Anthony Robbins at Unleash The Power Within at the Meadowlands in New Jersey!
For those who will be alone on Thanksgiving, please take the time to do something nice for yourself. It does not have to be extravagant, just something that will make YOU happy. Even:
  • sitting down with your feet up and watching TV
  • listening to music
  • surfing the web
  • reading a book
  • walking in the fresh air
  • observing the changing seasons
can make a big difference and be lots of fun and most peaceful.

Generally I do not mind being alone, I like my own company and can be very happy by myself. Of course, I like people too and am looking forward to spending time with good friends. I am blessed to have been invited and am looking forward to the day away from the computer!

Well, we are almost at the end...

Three more days to “25 Days of Grateful!” I don't mind telling you, there were days this was hard to do, but I did what needed to be done at the time... “dug deep within” to look for those blessings which were not quite so evident in the midst of the day's challenges. There was always something to grab onto! When it seemed like there were none, I looked to the fundamentals of life:
  • Being grateful for the roof over my head, the food on my table, my health, my creativity, my art, my love of nature, my friends, those I help daily through my discussion groups, etc.
If we look “hard enough,” there is always something to latch onto — in the way of blessings!

Day #20 of Grateful

Today was one of those days of mixed emotion! I worked through some of my challenges with the help of others on the web and my own stubbornness to not give in and not give up! Giving up is not in my vocabulary!

Today's list of grateful includes:

  • Now this is a biggie and it happened later on in the evening. A screw had fallen out of my desk chair and as I sat on the floor fixing it I knocked over a container of pens and pencils. As I preceded to put everything back in the container my eye roamed to what appeared to be a mouse — a dead one — at the corner of my desk. I was sure it was dead because when I turned on the flashlight it was completely still!

I quickly ran for the broom and dustpan and ran next door to my friend! I caught her as she was about to sit down to dinner! (Yuck!)

As we walked back into my apartment, she asked: “Are you sure it is dead?” I said: “Well it did not move!” By this time I was wringing my hands as she looked under the desk! What she found was... my mouse was “a spoon!”

Well you have to understand I was not wearing my contacts and my vision only goes so far without them. What I saw was the tail and hump of an “upside-down-spoon!” This appeared to be the back of a dead mouse with a “long, long” tail! I'll take a spoon anytime!

So... I AM ... “VERY GRATEFUL” that my mouse turned out to be a spoon!
  • Better yet, I am grateful that my friend came to my rescue. She could have left me alone to deal with what could have been a disgusting dilemma!
  • I am also grateful for those who helped me with my eBay selling and buying issues. Click here to find out more!
  • Last, but not least Pastor Joel Osteen's TV sermon was right on target as usual! I taped it and have already listened to it a number of times today! It's about being happy, “even if” we are not content or happy about where we are in our lives at any given time! Joel says “Happiness is a Choice!” He says: “We need to program ourselves for happiness each day!” As silly as this might sound, it works! I rather choose to be happy than walk around like the world is coming to an end in the next five minutes!
Although I look forward to Thanksgiving with anticipation, as I will be spending it with good friends, I can't help thinking of holidays past and my best friend who died almost twenty years ago — a few days before Thanksgiving. So you see... “I do” know how others feel about the holidays! That is why I chose to do the “25 Days of Grateful!

I hope everyone enjoyed their weekend!

One of the biggest blessings in life is friendship. We need to never lose site of this...

Friendship is not coming to us, friendship IS a privilege and a blessing! Nurture it, treasure it and protect it. Let the other person/people know how much it means to you. Even if it is hard to say in words, there are all kinds of ways to demonstrate one's feelings!

I am in transition these days and going through some very challenging times while I expand and grow! It's tough and I have one really big reason to be grateful:

  • I am grateful to be blessed with caring friends who really go the extra mile. I have one who has been beside me for the last year trying to help and support me and urge me on to success — even though we live thousands of miles away, and I probably fight her every step of the way with my stubborness! You know who you are! Thank you!
  • I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!

Roz on "Get The Edge" by Tony Robbins

A week or two ago I posted the novella below on a self-proclaimed Tony Robbins fan site. I'm not sure why I did it, as I never visit the site and was just passing through. I believe it will do more good here than there as hardly anyone posts or reads that site. The topic was:

    "HOW TONY ROBBINS INSPIRED ME!"

    "You asked, I'll tell..."

    ON GET THE EDGE
I was very skeptical when I ordered Get The Edge (May 2003), but being desperately in need of help, I took a chance. There was something about Tony that struck a cord with me. However, I will admit that I watched his infomercial for 5 months "before" I ordered the CDs. Mostly because I did not have the money and I felt it was dishonest to order the CDs and then send them back. (NO... I still have them!)

The longer I watched the more desperate I got... Finally after 5 months I called and asked for the number of customer service. I do reviewing, but I knew how badly I needed those CDs and I WOULD NOT ask to review them. I told them my problem and asked if they ever had discounts. To this day I am not sure if there really was a promotion, but the man I spoke to took off $100 from the package and STILL told me I could return the package in 30 days. I NEVER returned it!

When I got the CDs I "admired" (smiling broadly as I type this) the packaging. I was impressed with the way it looked! I looked at it for one week using the excuse that I needed to go out and buy a disk player so that I could walk and listen and/or listen away from the computer.

Finally I said to myself: "Self, you really have to try these in case they really are NOT good and have to go back." I gingerly put the CD in the CD player of my computer and began to listen. I listened to the program as I was instructed to:

    • Tape 1 -- Get The Edge
    • I believe it was suggested that we could listen to the end tape of Focus.

I did this and cried with Tony when he talked about his father-in-law. I had lost my best friend in a similar manner.
    • Tape 1 -- Personal Power Classic
    • Tape 2 -- Personal Power Classic -- Pain & Pleasure

PAIN & PLEASURE was the one that did it for me. UNTIL THEN I did not feel much excitement or a feeling that things were going to change. When I started to do the exercise, I realized why I WAS doing and NOT doing certain things. It all became crystal clear. I have listened to that CD many more times than I care to count!
NOTE: It was never that I felt the program was not good, I just felt it might not work "for me!" After all, I was not having much success in anything at that point and for sure could not count on myself for anything! (I was shattered after 911 -- living in NYC and being in Manhattan that day I was destroyed and could not seem to find my way back!)

PAIN & PLEASURE did it for me. I knew that I was eating for comfort. I had gained back the 20 pounds I had lost before 911. I gained it back because I was eating "comfort food," like many others and NOT because I was hungry. I am/was not unique in any of this.

NOTE II: I did find out in the middle of UPW why I was so shattered after 911 and why I could not find my way back: "I LOST my CERTAINTY!" I lost the feeling of security and would never know it again. Once I realized that everything changed!

PAIN & PLEASURE was the turning point for me.
I went through Get The Edge (it took longer than a month) and Personal Power II (I started and stopped this a few times, but finally got through it in one shot. I cried in utter elation when I realized I had finished it. I had not realized I was at the end!)

I also attended Unleash The Power Within complimentary of Tony's generosity after I gave a testimonial on National TV when he was on QVC (Over the phone!) I had been doing Get The Edge for about five weeks when I gave the first testimonial. I can still remember how nervous I was, but I remembered what Tony said on one of the tapes... (paraphrasing in my own words here) Something like we only get one chance sometimes and if we don't take it it might not come around again! I felt if I did not call to talk to him that night I might never have the chance.)

One year later I gave another Testimonial in the way of "thanking Tony" live on National TV. I could not get near him at UPW and it was VERY important to me to thank him for helping me when no one else would. I did not want him to think that I just took the ticket lightly. He did for me, what no one else would.

Let's put it this way, before I did Get The Edge I could not even see a light at the end of the tunnel. Once I started it I saw a glimmer and now I see a huge fire! Living in NYC after 911 I was done in.

Get The Edge helped me to learn to depend on myself again. (I was always independent and a survivor!)

I lost 23 pounds (the 20 plus 3) - not so much from dieting, but from walking, "deciding" when I ate whether it was going to be painful/regretful AFTER I ate it and ate for pleasure when I wanted to. In other words I decided if I wanted the pleasure of the food or the pain/regret afterwards. When I felt it would be painful afterwards I "did not" eat the food. It was easy, especially after I started to lose the weight. It's still a struggle, but I worked too hard to go backwards.

I also changed the way that I think. I no longer feel if something does not work that I failed. I feel that "I learned something" and now I know what does not work. I then go on to do something different and if that does not work, I try again UNTIL I reach the outcome that I am looking for. All the time being positive and excited about what I am doing. Before that, I was shattered when things did not work and I put so much of myself into them.

This has kept me focused for 18 months so far. NOW that I know -- AGAIN -- what it is to be happy I HAVE something to measure from. BEFORE I could not remember being happy EVER! I could NOT understand how I got where I was.

I also take time "each day" to be grateful. It was not that I was ungrateful before, but I never gave it much thought. I realized that I had lots to be grateful for, but it was just in passing. I suppose you could say that I took things for granted like many others. NOW... that I take time to be grateful I find many more people doing the same things. I guess I just never looked before!

As well, I have learned to count my blessings and I am trying to demonstrate to others that they have things in their lives to be grateful for as well. To me, NOW... every little thing that happens is a blessing. I have learned to turn negatives into positives and usually demonstrate it through my art. It becomes fun and "feels good!" My entire life changed after I did Get The Edge. Got a little confusing after Unleash The Power Within because I dealt with the issues I had when I went and when I came back I had new ones. Let's call it growing pains. However, It got better after Personal Power II. Also, it takes time. It's a lot of work. I suppose some can do it quickly, but everything in my life was in disarray so I had a lot to fix. (As I said to Tony via my testimonial: "If I was not happy with me, I could not expect anyone else to be! So I worked on me first!")

One has to be ready to do the program. It is NOT magic. It's lots of hard work. It's not rocket science and all makes sense, but it helps when the person helping IS encouraging you and NOT telling you what you can't do. (I came from a dysfunctional family like a lot of other people and the one thing that Tony said that made a huge difference right off was: "Your past is NOT your future!" That tore down the barriers immediately, NEVER to go up again!)

Trust me, I am not where I want to be, but I am much, much, much further ahead than I was. My life is different. I am happy, I feel strong and have accomplished lots of the goals I set for myself. I still have some major ones to do, but when I look back at how far I have come I know I can do it!

I wish I could have a personal coach as one sometimes needs that personal touch, but I am more than a little financially challenged right now and that is not in the cards for me -- right now. This is a major drawback, but I will just keep plugging ahead!

BTW, who cares if Tony got divorced. Did anyone ever think that someone CAN help others because they learned from their own mistakes. I would NEVER condemn him for getting divorced and then telling others how to build their relationships. That is utter nonsense.

Perhaps I look at things differently because I am older, but I have lived a lot of life and my only regret is that I NEVER knew about Tony Robbins before. My life would have been so much different.

    • My backup computer had a hiccup yesterday, and I am grateful it is now fixed. Astoundingly enough, Dell's tech support guy helped me within 15 minutes. He was nice, courteous and knowledgeable. Certainly not what I have experienced in the past year. I only hope this is a new beginning for Dell and that they listened to all of us who complained about the outsourcing to India. I am grateful for getting someone who knew which end was up and got the job done quickly and efficiently.
    • I attended a wonderful teleseminar today at http://www.AnnieJenningsPR.com/teleseminars.htm entitled:
Email Newsletters: Marketing Your Expertise One Page At A Time with Roger Parker. Just fabulous! I am grateful to have been able to attend and gain all the knowledge shared. Roger's technique is fabulous and after hearing him I am almost a believer that writing a monthly eNewsletter can be fun.
    Have a good evening!

Please come back tomorrow for Day #19 of Grateful.

    Day #16 of Grateful

This is a time when I, myself have to keep my mind on the things "I have to be grateful for." It's odd, sometimes in the most trying times, if we look hard enough we can find a silver lining and a good-size fire at the end of the tunnel.

Today, my list of grateful is short and sweet:

    • I am grateful that I have me to depend on as I am always there for myself!
    • Once again, I am grateful for alternatives and my own creativeness!
    • Last, but not least I am grateful to have the opportunity to grow in times of challenge! As they say... "What does not kill us makes you stronger!"
What astonishes me is how easy it is for some to look down on those who may be temporarily challenged as they forget to consider: "There by the Grace of G_d Go I!" I Thank G_d each day that I am NOT that type of person!

    Have a good evening!

Please come back tomorrow for Day #18 of Grateful.

It's odd, but it hardly ever occurs to me how blessed I am to be able to help others through my discussion groups. This year will be the sixth anniversary of my Web Development group HTML-Haven. Through the years thousands have passed through its virtual doors. It's a true blessing to have touched so many lives and benefited from the experience. I have been blessed beyond imagination to have been able to form numerous lasting relationships. This alone is an invaluable blessing. I can only say... "Thank You for the experience!"

Each day my list of grateful gets simpler and more fundamental:

    • Now this is a real duzy... (Is "duzy" a word?) I am grateful I did not burn the motor or whatever a hand-held tape recorder has. I was multi-tasking while rewinding the tape and mindlessly put the tape recorder in my pocket. You guessed it, I forgot and the battery burned out! Batteries are a lot cheaper than buying a brand new tape recorder.
    • I know I have said this before and continue to say it again and again and again. I am grateful for NOT giving up! Giving up is NOT in my vocabulary!
    • Last, but not least I am grateful for trusted friends to brainstorm and share ideas with.
    Enjoy your day.

Come back tomorrow for Day #17 of Grateful.

I had to think about this one a bit. The weekend was good. I did not get as much done as I would have liked, but it was unrealistic to think I could have done more and still have time to do non-computer related chores. So, all and all, it was a productive weekend!

Today I started my day on a spiritual note, reading some and listening to the tape I made of Joel Osteen's sermon Sunday morning. Joel spoke about "visualizing" where you want to be. That's pretty heady stuff and I find it worth listening to over and over again. I figure... eventually it will sink in, or I'll get tired of letting other things stand in my way!

Some personal stuff happened today and it made me realize how very blessed I am — even with some of my current challenges, which are no little things. It could be a lot worse!

So today my grateful list will be quite simple:

    • I am grateful that I still have alternatives. While this might not make sense as it is a bit personal, alternatives ARE very important in the scheme of things. Without alternatives we find ourselves at other people's mercy. Not a good place to be. So I consider myself blessed.
    • I am grateful for today's warm weather. It was sunny, warm and delightful for walking and taking pictures. I did both, and enjoyed the experience. At one time it would never have occured to me to enjoy the peace of it all... Today I did.
    • I am grateful to experience the changing seasons. The trees are beautiful, even without their leaves. It's a time of ending and new beginnings!
    • Last, but not least I am grateful to be alive!
Be good to yourself and have a wonderful evening. Please come back tomorrow for Day #16 of Grateful.

    Day #1 of Grateful

    Day #2 of Grateful

    Day #3 of Grateful

    Day #4 of Grateful

    Day #8 of Grateful

    Day #9 of Grateful

    Day #10 of Grateful

    Day #11 of Grateful

    Day #12 of Grateful

    Day #13 of Grateful

Today I was blessed to open my eyes to a sermon from Pastor Joel Osteen on one of the Cable TV stations. Joel's message hit home like an arrow shot straight to my heart.

Joel talked about "visualizing" the life we want for ourselves.

(paraphrasing) — He said we must "visual" our dreams, hopes and desires "BEFORE" we receive them — thus having something to keep reaching for. Years ago... Someone I had little faith in told me: "If you cannot see it, it will not happen!" Unfortunately at the time I was going through a lot of inner turmoil and doubt, and was not blessed with that type of vision. Today's message hit home and gave me the inspiration to move ahead with a vision for two projects I have been fearful to reach out for. To enforce Joel's message and keep me motivated and on track, I taped the audio of this show so that I could listen to it over and over.

If you know Joel Osteen and you know me, you may be thinking, "What's a nice Jewish Girl from the Bronx doing listening to a "Born Again Pastor" from Texas. Quite simply, Joel's sermons are based on everyday life and the struggles each and everyone of us experience no matter what ethnicity we are. His sermons are not overly Christian and I benefit from each one I listen to.

I have learned through my own struggles and what "I used to" call failures... very few are willing to help those who are financially challenged. If you can't pay, you don't receive! My belief is and has always been... "G_d helps those who help themselves!" So, I have learned to help myself by accepting help, guidance and inspiration from wherever it comes from. This is one of the trickle-down results from working with the Anthony Robbins programs. I am here to tell you... This type of attitude keeps one encouraged, motivated and on the straight and narrow to fulfill their dreams and passions. (It's easy for others to give advice and tell us what we should do, but NEVER how to do it!)

    So today's grateful list includes:

    • I am grateful to be the recipient of a sunny new day.
    • I am grateful to experience life's new opportunities, whether good or bad as each is a learning experience.
    • I am grateful I learned — from Anthony Robbins — that I have "not" failed IF I learned something. If I try something that does not work, then I now know what does not work and I will try something else and keep this up until I receive the result I desire!"
    • I am grateful to have turned on the TV all that time ago to an Anthony Robbins (Tony Robbins) infomercial. Until that day, I had no idea who Tony Robbins was. It seems I was living in a world of my own as everyone else seemed to know who he was!
    • Last, but not least I am grateful to be able to share all of this with you. IF I can help just one person to not suffer as I did, that to me is the biggest contribution I can ever make to anyone. There "IS" help, we just need to find it and accept it from wherever it comes from! REMEMBER... We can't always be choosey from where we receive help — Just be grateful it IS there!
I wish you a blessed day, no matter what you do. Make it fun, productive and joyful. Even resting can be all these things. Put your feet up, watch TV for the day, walk in the park, walk around the block, look at the flowers, smell the fresh air, whatever... I wish you the day you wish for yourself!

Well, today is Saturday and the sun is shining brightly here in NY — at least for now. Compared to yesterday's freezing rain this is a vast improvement. This in itself is something to be grateful for as I have to go out and do a few chores.

So let's get started with today's list...

    • I am grateful for the new day — to start over, try new things and move forward with planned projects.
    • I am grateful for the new opportunities the day will bring — even before they present themselves.
    • I am grateful the sun is shining brightly and the streets are drying up. However, I suspect I will be dodging puddles from yesterday's rain.
    • I am grateful for all the new people I came in contact with this past week at industry events and meetings. One never knows where the next partnerships, opportunities or friendships will come from!
    • Last, but not least... I am grateful for caring friends and acquaintances! Their support and loyalty is my most treasured possession! You know who you are!
Enjoy your weekend. Make it fun, no matter what you do!

Free Cycle ... Round and Round It Goes!

A while back I discovered a group called Free Cycle. Free Cycle is a network which helps recycle items that one person no longer needs or wants by connecting them up with someone who needs or wants these same items. For example:

One person has a TV to throw out. They do not want to trash it as it still works, so they offer it at Free Cycle and someone else who can use it makes contact and picks it up. No money is exchanged, as everything on Free Cycle IS free! It's really interesting what is offered and what is taken. It can be as small as a partial roll of wrapping paper or energy bars to washers, dryers, computers, etc.. In this day and age a network like this is a true blessing.

To check and see if there is a Free Cycle group near you visit http://www.FreeCycle.org. Perhaps you want to start one in your town. You can do that here as well. Check it out!

I was very surprised that lots of businesses were open on Veterans Day. I thought everything would have been closed except for the stores!

I'm looking forward to the weekend with great expectation and enthusiasm. Once again I am making myself a promise to have fun — whatever I do, even if I work, which I probably will be doing! Somehow this makes a difference and I have enjoyed the last few weekends, even when nothing much happened that was extraordinary. Pledging to have fun, seems to make everything fun!

Last weekend I discovered a great new Photoshop filter and designed a new collection while trying it out! Check out the entries for Saturday November 6th and/or Sunday November 7th.

So let's get started with today's list...

    • I am very grateful to perhaps be making a small difference in someone else's life by doing this. My project seems to be making others look within and count their own blessings. I would love to hear from some of you.
    • This one might sound silly, but... I am grateful the Christmas Tree is up at Rockefeller Center, so I can go and take pictures — Only a photographer could understand this one! One problem is that the lights won't go on until November 30th, but I can still see photographic possibilities. This is the creative side of me talking now!
    • Last, but not least... I am grateful to be able to sleep later tomorrow, however, I have this thing about getting up late. I feel if I sleep later than 6 AM I am missing half the day! However, this does not stop me from doing it “on occasion!” How crazy is this! Do you think it is an age thing? It never bothered me when I was younger!
    Enjoy your day!

It's hard to believe that I am writing this column for 11 days already, I am almost halfway through the project!

At a Tuesday evening meeting, a colleague said: "Roz, what you are doing is really great and inspirational to others!" My honest response was: "For the first few days I felt really odd about it. It seemed like a good idea when I announced it, but doing it was yet another story." I went on to say: "To my surprise, after the first few days I started to look forward to writing. It got easier!" My everyday list is more comprehensive, but contains some very personal stuff.

Like with my artwork, life's events partially motivate my grateful list. I have learned to turn negatives into positives and learn from them. It feels better to do that than to dwell on the negative! We can only try. If we want something, we need to ask for it, people can't kill us, they can only say no! Most of the time you will be surprised by the response!

So let's get to today's list!

    • Today is Veterans Day and I am grateful to live in a free country and have freedom of speech.
    • I am grateful I may go out for a walk when I like and roam the streets freely to enjoy nature and/or the fresh air.
    • I am grateful for those who fought and sacrificed so I may enjoy living in freedom! As we know... “Freedom is NOT Free!”
    • I am grateful and pray for the families of those who went off to war — the sacrifices, fear and worry they experienced! “How brave they all are, and how proud they should be!”
    • I am grateful to those who paid the ultimate price so I may live in freedom and be writing this here and now! “I wish the price were not so heavy though!”
    • "I am grateful to be an American and live in the greatest country in the world!"
    • I am grateful for all the wonderful vets I met on the web when I created my Memorial Day in CyberSpace and Veterans Day in CyberSpace sites. UNTIL THEN... the holidays were just a time of fun and shopping. SINCE THEN... the holidays are a time to be grateful and reflect the costs of my freedom!
    • Last, but not least... I am grateful for the friendships formed during my research for the above web sites, as they continue so many years later!
Have you hugged a vet today? Well, maybe that is not possible, but you certainly can... THANK A VET TODAY!

    Enjoy your day!

I'm a little late posting this one, but it is still today!
The last two days in NYC were fun, but very exhausting. Today I am playing catchup, so...

    • I am grateful to have been able to “sleep in” a bit until 10 AM. My weary bones needed a bit of resting after all the Photoshop learning and trudging around Manhattan on Monday and Tuesday — in the freezing cold. (You'd be surprised how tired one can get from sitting around letting someone else do the instructing!)
    • I am grateful for the opportunity to help so many through my own web and graphic development discussion groups. I tend to forget what a privilege it is to be able to touch so many and prevent them from going through the same struggles I encountered since I entered the web. I don't believe that everyone else has to suffer just because I did.
    • I am grateful for the wonderful members who enrich my online discusison groups. Without them, there would be no groups!
    • I am grateful — even if — I only help one person a day. Just knowing that I made, even a small difference, makes me feel rich beyond imagination.
    • Last, but not least, I am grateful to all those who have touched my life and helped enrich it through their friendship, kindness and generosity. (Friendship is a privilege and a luxury, be good to it!)
    Enjoy your day!

HTML-Haven is a Web Development Discussion Group dedicated to accommodate the novice as well as the seasoned web developer/designer.

All questions are welcome, no matter how silly or trivial they may seem — to those asking them. No question is too silly or trivial, EXCEPT those that *are not asked!*. Each of us has been there before, and gone through what the new or novice designer is experiencing now.

Our goal is to make everyone feel welcome and to create a friendly environment where one can ask whatever questions they are faced with at any given time — providing they are related to web development/design, the Internet, email, web research, search engines, search engine optimization or anything else that is directly or remotely related to web development.

HTML Haven Discussion Group was created — November 1998 — by Roz Fruchtman to provide a Haven for all to come when they are in need of HTML or web development related help. We welcome the experienced web designer as well, who would like to give back some of their knowledge to help those that are new to the field. Won't you join us!

    • I am grateful to have been able to attend the Scott Kelby/Bert Monroy complimentary Adobe Photoshop classes offered at B&H Photo in NYC on Monday, November 8, 2004. Everyone had a really good time and learned a great deal!
    • Scott showed me how to create an image outlined with a symbol using the Path feature. Seeing it done will help me to recreate it more easily — I hope! Thanks Scott!
    • I am grateful there were no traffic problems going to or coming from Manhattan. I am not sure that will be the case on Tuesday as I will be going in the middle of rush hour. I am attending the Photoshop Creativity Tour at the Javits Center.
    • Last, but not least I am grateful to be attending the above mentioned Adobe Photoshop class. After today's brief demonstration I can't wait to see what a full day's event will offer!

It's freezing here in New York. Winter is here, even if not officially. I will be seeking out my gloves, ear muffs and scarf for the trek into Manhattan tomorrow! It should be a sight!

    Enjoy your day!

Veterans Day Tribute — Bring Tissues!

I received a short note tonight about linking web sites. Like most, I get a lot of these requests, but not always for anything worthwhile. As a patriotic American woman, I was brought to tears when I visited and listened to this beautiful song.

“This is America Our Heart & Soul”
    Composed by John Schmidt
Click to listen to This Is America

As an aside: I care so deeply for our troops, our veterans and our country. I want so very much to give back and let them know they are being remembered and thought of. Like you John, I do it through my art. However... because of abuse I cannot put any of my cards up to be sent freely. It hurts me more than words can say!

The cards are included in my member sites at:

Graphics Schmaphics Exclusive Judaic Greetings, and
    Table Top Greetings.

I would say... There are more than 50 patriotic eCards in the collection.

May God Bless You John, Bless Us All, and God Bless America!

    REVIEW: Scott Kelby/Bert Monroy — B&H NYC

Today's Scott Kelby/Bert Monroy Adobe Photoshop classes hosted at B&H Photo were absolutely phenomenal.

Bert gave a quick demonstration of how he creates very complicated digital images that replicate photographs. I can't even imagine doing anything like that without using a photograph as my base. But it was a treat to see.

Scott wowed everyone with some of his Down & Dirty Digital Images tips and tricks. He even teased me when I asked if they were in any of his books, cause I have most of them!

Unlike the regular NAPP seminars, where questions and answers take place in between breaks and after the class, the B&H group was smaller in comparison to the Javits Center's events and questions and answers went on throughout the classes so that everyone was treated to the questions and answers.

B&H Photo opened their doors to us and made us feel very much at home. It was late so I never got to go inside the store, but I do hope to get back there sometime soon.

IF you are in NYC and they ever have one of these complimentary sessions again, you owe it to yourself to go. You have nothing to lose and all to gain! Trust me, you will be glad you did!

IF you are a NAPP member you know what I mean!

To be quite honest I am feeling kind of grateful right about now. I had a wonderfully productive “fun” weekend. It consisted of a bit of work, but it was done in a fun state of mind! Whenever I design I am happy as it is my absolute favorite thing to do!

    So I will just say...

    • I am grateful for the wonderful weekend I just experienced. I wish it could have been extended!
    • I am grateful for all the designs I was able to create, both for print and for the web.
    • I am grateful I learned about the filter site at:
      http://www.selwane.com/mehdi/english/kaleidoscope.htm
If you use Photoshop you need to check this site out. I am not sure if the filters can be used with other programs, but I would bet they can be.
    • I am grateful I will be attending a day of complimentary classes at B&H Photo in NYC with Scott Kelby and Bert Monroy. Click to read more. Scott is my absolute favorite! I have never met Bert, but I hear he is fabulous.
    • Last, but not least, I am grateful for the phenomenal digital images I was able to take early Sunday evening. I went out just about sundown and the sky was gorgeous. At one point the photos I took looked like I was in the middle of a forest with the sky burning bright orange and yellow. I can't wait to start fooling with those in Photoshop. The possibilities are endless!
Well, that is about it for tonight. 6AM comes fast and I don't want to be late. It's always fun going to Manhattan. I love the bus ride as it is a time “to just be” and leave the driving to the bus driver. Since it gets dark earlier, I am hoping to be able to take some great digital photos before I leave the city. My photography skills are improving, but I still have a ways to go. I wish the camera came with an instructor!

Please come back tomorrow for Day #9 of Grateful!

This will be short, but the accomplishment was monumental in my book as I have been struggling with this for more time than I would like to admit — even to myself! The point is, I did “not” let myself down, and that means a great deal to me!

    • I am grateful that I got through Day #1 of Anthony Robbins “Time Of Your Life” series. This program concentrates on Time Management issues which are a major problem for me.

There are 10 tapes, each 90 minutes in length. It has been hard to find a chunk of time — 90 minutes long — where I can sit and listen all in one session. I am used to multitasking and listening while I do other things, then taking the time to do the assignment(s) after I complete the CD/tape. These tapes are different and there are exercises to be done in the middle of the tapes (at least some of them). Try schlepping a journal along for a walk and then writing intermittently while walking. It's impossible, to say the least, and even it were not it is disruptive to the continuity of the session!

Anyway... I did get through Tape #1 and then sat and wrote my little heart out — 11 single pages worth. Tony always says the exercises take about 10-15 minutes. I have yet to find this true — at least for me! I am painfully honest with myself and I just let everything hang out. I feel the same way I do when I go to the doctor. IF... I want the doctor to help me, I have to be honest as to why I am there! IF I can't be honest with myself, then who can I be honest with!
So that's it for today! While this may not seem like such an accomplishment in the scheme of things, it is! I have tried this a few times already and never completed it for the reasons I stated above — the length of time and the intermittent/interactive assignments. So... today I started from Day #1 all over again. However, it was productive as I knew what it was about and I have been “more” aware of the issues I “want” to work on.

Now I am off for a very short walk as it will be dark in about 50 minutes.

I hope you are enjoying yourself as well. This was a most productive weekend and it was fun as I did a load of designing, both yesterday and today.

Please come back tomorrow for Day #8 of Grateful!

    Day #6 of Grateful

What is this all about — My Objective

    Day #1 of Grateful

    Day #2 of Grateful

    Day #3 of Grateful

    Day #4 of Grateful

    Day #5 of Grateful

I am a little late posting this today, but a few really good things happened — quite unexpectedly — since I wrote yesterday, so here goes with just a few!

    • I am grateful for Linda, one of the members in my Photoshop-Haven Discussion Group for providing the group and myself with information about a Kaleidoscope filter I had asked about last night. It's like magic, I posted before I went to sleep and when I awoke the information was there!

I had been working with the one from the Filter Factory for years and I desired a change and here it is:

      Kaleidoscope 2.1 at Selwane.com
      http://www.selwane.com/mehdi/english/kaleidoscope.htm

This is a great little filter. It's fun and very easy to use. Your only limitations are those you place upon yourself and/or your creativity!

Just fooling around with it, I created a brand new collection of new eCard and Graphic Designs. Thanks Linda for posting it!
    • I am grateful to have heard from an old friend who I had not spoken to for quite some time. He called with something he thought would interest me and we had an opportunity to chat and reconnect. AND... he taught me a new feature in Photoshop. Well, NEW TO ME... not to everyone else! I enjoyed it! Thanks Mike for calling!
    • Last but not least, I am grateful to be pulling myself out of the funk I have been experiencing for the last little while. Mostly it is because I will be leaving my comfort zone to do things “I want to do,” but “I don't feel comfortable doing!” Like most, as much as I would have liked to say I beat this... I still do not/do things out of pain and/or pleasure. I was procrastinating. (Oh, how I hate the “P word!”) But... the good thing is that I do not procrastinate as much as I used to, or as long. I worked to hard to move ahead! I NEVER want to go back there!
I hope you will do something that you enjoy this weekend. It is so important to take a little time for yourself. EVEN IF, it is work related, do something that you TRULY ENJOY! For me, that is designing!

Please come back tomorrow for Day #7 of Grateful!

    Day #5 of Grateful

What is this all about — My Objective

    Day #1 of Grateful

    Day #2 of Grateful

    Day #3 of Grateful

    Day #4 of Grateful

    Like most...

    • I am grateful the words “giving up” are not in my vocabulary! Trust me, it is not always easy, but something pulls me back as I worked too hard to just throw my hands up and say “I have wasted the last few years of my life!”
    • I am grateful I found Anthony Robbins one night — on an infomercial of all things — while flipping through the TV channels. That night changed my life!
    • Last but not least, I am grateful this week is over and the weekend looms bright before me!
This week has been very challenging for me, I feel some sort of a change coming on. No matter what... I am planning to make whatever I do this weekend fun (and productive), and I hope all of you enjoy your weekend as well!

Please come back tomorrow for Day #6 of Grateful!

    November 04, 2004

    Day #4 of Grateful

What is this all about — My Objective

    Day #1 of Grateful

    Day #2 of Grateful

    Day #3 of Grateful

This one will be quick and easy — maybe easy, but not so quick!

    • I am grateful that the voting fiasco is over — for another four years — and we can all go back to our lives as we knew it. Whether we are happy or sad, we are Americans first and it is our way to pull together and back our President and our country! I found this event more than a little disconcerting!
    • I am grateful I live in a country where we have the choice/opportunity to vote our politicians in! (No matter what... this is much better than the alternative! Think about it!)
    • I am grateful I was able to help a friend/colleague with a project today. It is/was my way of giving back for all she does/has done for me throughout the years! It was my pleasure to be able to do it in a meaningful way!
    • I am grateful for receiving a phone call today from someone I met this past summer at an industry event — for a possible project!
    • Let me not forget... In the middle of the night — when I could not sleep — while watching the election news I was doodling and worked up another bunch of designs for my Judaic eCard Club web site. Not bad for a non-paper and pencil artist!
As you can see... if you look hard enough you can find all sorts of things to be grateful for — at any given time of day or night. When things are the dreariest choose the fundamentals... Refocus and be grateful for your life and the opportunity to start over! You have not failed IF you learned something! You now know what does not work! (Generally my grateful list is between 20-30 items, and yes... sometimes it is very hard to do! But, by the time I get done I feel like a very rich woman! I WANT YOU to feel that way to! That is why I am doing this!)

NOTE: The last week or so I am having my own troubles doing my list each morning. As much as I hate to admit it, it is either that I am coming down with something, or am having an early bout with the “Holiday Blahs.” A trick I learned from Anthony Robbins, the Peak Performance Coach is:

If you cannot come up with anything to be grateful or proud or excited about (or anything else you ask yourself) CHANGE the words to be something like this:

    FROM THIS:
What am I grateful for today?

    TO THIS:
What “could” I be grateful for today?

It changes the mood of the question and you will find you have a lot to list and/or write down. (As silly as it sounds, it works!) By the time you get through you feel “very” differently about things!

Please come back tomorrow for Day #5 of Grateful!

    Day #3 of Grateful

What is this all about — My Objective

    Day #1 of Grateful

    Day #2 of Grateful

On Wednesday and Thursday it is easy to find at least one thing to be grateful for as I attend the FREE seminars hosted by AnnieJenningsPR.com. Annie's seminars are phenomenal. They are always interesting, educational and uplifting. The seminar's guests are expert in the subject of the day. I find... even when the subject is not directly related to me I learn at least one thing. I know that I can't afford to give up even one opportunity for advancement or to network and form new relationships!

Check out Wednesday's AnnieJenningsPR.com FREE teleseminar at:
    http://www.AnnieJenningsPR.com/teleseminars.htm

    So let's get started:

    • I am grateful to be able to attend AnnieJenningsPR.com's FREE teleseminar:

Tracking your Emotionally Connected Website: The Numbers Don't Lie!"
with Philippa Gamse, Website Strategy Consultant, and John Marshall, CEO of ClickTracks
    • I am not only grateful for the above seminar, but I am grateful to be able to network with those on the call as well. It's like meeting with old friends each week and it gives me something fun to look forward to on an otherwise — possibly — dreary day!
    • Last but not least, I was able to draw a number of illustrations — using pen and paper — for my Judaic eCards. A year ago, I would have laughed if someone suggested that I do this! My first reply used to be: “I can't draw!” Now... I at the least give it a try! This beats having to worry about using other's illustrations and worrying about copyright infringement issues!
NOTE: One day builds on another. One success builds on another and so on and so forth. Little steps become big steps! Do not permit anyone to discourage you! Trust me... there will be those who will try to!

REMEMBER: Add all your achievements/accomplishments together and you will have a sure fire recipe for success, even if... the success is just your own self satisfaction! What could be better than building self confidence and self esteem!

Please come back tomorrow for Day #4 of Grateful!

The Vote — Who Is Our President?

NOTE: I am writing this entry as a US "Voting" Citizen. Who I voted for is irrelevant and will remain private! No matter what... (whether I liked it or not) I would feel the same way no matter who was the prospective winner!

Can you believe it? It's 6:00AM Wednesday morning, November 3, 2004 and we... Still do not know who the new President is!

While I can understand why President Bush is frustrated and ansy to claim victory, I can also understand why John Carey and John Edwards want all the votes to be counted. In fact, I would be more than a little disappointed if all the votes were not counted! What would be the point of voting if our vote does not count? I for one would be disillusioned and more than a little disenchanted to vote in the next election.

I consider the right to vote a privilege, but one that seems to be challenged in the Presidential elections. There is something wrong with this picture! Perhaps if Senator Carey gets elected he will do something about this. No one else has! (You would think that something would have been done after the fiasco in Florida in 2000 with the "pregnant and hanging chads!"

In Ohio and other places it was important enough for people to stand in line for hours for the privilege of voting. They filled out what is called "Provisional" ballots. Now... there is a chance for those ballots not to be counted. If our ballots are not counted what is the point of voting. In my opinion this is disgusting and an insult to those of us who voted!

Oh... wait, it is not only Provisional Ballots, but Absentee Ballots in Ohio! I agree with Senator Carey... after all of this... he "does" owe it to his constituents, AND... to himself to have ALL the votes counted!

Last I heard John Edwards said: "Every vote would count and every vote would be counted!"

    Do Our Votes Count?

    I am beginning to wonder!

    Day #2 of Grateful

What is this all about — My Objective

    Day #1 of Grateful

As you read the things I am grateful for each day, you will begin to see it does not take much to make me happy. I have learned that big things grow from the smaller things in life!

On Monday after posting the entry “Day #1 of Grateful” my day began to go downhill quickly. However, through much perseverance on my part, in a few hours it took an uphill turn and things worked out in the end. So I now have two additional things to be grateful for!

    • I am grateful my — immediate — dental issues got straightened out! It seems the dentist did not fill out the insurance papers properly and the claim was denied. Once I went to work on it I got it straightened out!
    • Most of all, I am grateful that I have the dental insurance in the first place! I would have much worse problems if I did not!
    • I am grateful my friend Kevin, who is an expert on Movable Type, fixed my Commenting problem and people can Comment once again and not get the dreaded “Page Not Found” error.
    • I am grateful the last digital pictures I took were the best I took so far. (This means I am learning how to use my camera!)
    • Most of all, I am grateful to live in a free country where I get to “VOICE MY OPINION” and “VOTE” for whom I wish to protect me for the next four years!
I realize some of this seems silly, but in the big picture it is all important. For example:
    • The dental issue is a big one, that would not have been a joke had it been true.
    • The Commenting issue was a problem in making Blog Views By Roz interactive, besides being an embarrassment each time the Page Not Found error presented itself.
    • The improvement of my digital picture taking is important as I plan to use these images as a base for some of my artwork.
    • Last but not least, living in a free society speaks volumes for itself!
As I told you... it does not take much to make me happy!

Normally these four items would be added to a much longer list that I do each morning. As much as I want to share, some of it is very personal!

NOTE: If you just dropped in and have no idea what this is all about, please read my objective.

Come back tomorrow for Day #3 of Grateful!

    November 01, 2004

VOTE — Your Country Needs You!

If we learned nothing else four years ago, we learned just how important each and every vote is.

Please, if you are registered don't let this vote get away from you. There is nothing more important and it takes so little time for such a large investment in your future and safety!

NOTE: If you did not register, please do so and be prepared for “next year.” Don't wait... Visit Rock The Vote.

    Day #1 of Grateful

What is this all about — My Objective

For some the holidays are often a time of sadness, melancholy and devastation. My mission is to demonstrate how looking within and being grateful could change this to a time of enjoyment, fun and looking toward the future with wonderment and great expectation.

While this little project could turn into a depressing chore, I am determined to make it fun and upbeat... So let's get going!

Each morning... I have learned to start my day by counting my blessings and concentrating on those things for which I am grateful. It creates a feeling of richness, pride and success — and the power to push on to the day's challenges. AND... “It's FREE!”

For each of the next 25 days — until Thanksgiving — I will be sharing at least one reason I am grateful. Hopefully this will help others discover the peace I have found. I challenge you to make a list of your own! On a “challenging” (note, I did not say bad) day I can come up with at least 15-20. I just do the fundamentals (Fundamentals are those things that I give thanks for each day no matter what!).

NOTE: It is not always easy to do this. There are some mornings I get up and say: “What am I grateful for?” I respond: “Nothing!” My next question is: “What - could I - be grateful for?” Then I begin to dig deep within. By the time I get done I feel rich and blessed beyond words!

    • I am grateful for being alive and above ground -- no one ever came back and said how great it is on the other side. Besides being alive enables me an “another opportunity” to follow my dreams, make my life mean something and perhaps make a difference and help someone else.
    • I am grateful for having food on my table
    • I am grateful for having a roof over my head
    • I am grateful to have been able to pay my bills last month
    • I am grateful for being relatively healthy
    • I am grateful for my strength and determination in not giving up, even under the worst circumstances and in the worst of times.
Ok... that's six! See how easy it is!

Come back tomorrow for Day #2 of Grateful!
